NS/FR supports The American Legion’s National Security Commission and the Foreign Relations Commission to achieve their resolutions, goals and objectives.
NS/FR is located in the Washington, D.C. National Office. Its overall mission is to ensure a strong national defense and homeland security backed by productive international support and relationships as mandated by The American Legion’s resolutions. This mission includes advocating for; adequate defense resources and strategies, plans to assure homeland security, and necessary international relations, treaties and alliances, in order to protect the citizens of this country, and its democratic way of life.
NS/FR advocates on behalf of our active duty service members and members of the National Guard and Reserve forces by emphasizing the honorable nature of military service and the US government’s need to ensure the quality of life for military families, veterans and military retirees.
NS/FR promotes and advocates The American Legion’s positions to the Administration, Congress and the American public. In addition, NS/FR sponsors a number of American Legion programs for communities and states, including Law Enforcement and Firefighter of the Year Awards, ROTC Awards, Disaster Planning and Preparation, Military Funeral Honors, and others.
