The American Legion website now offers a comprehensive new calendar of veteran career events nationwide. The calendar already lists more than 100 events organized throughout the country and co-sponsored by The American Legion. Cities large and small - like Houston, Eau Claire, Wis., and Phoenix - all play host to free American Legion-connected career events, which welcome employers like DeVry, Microsoft, Northrop Grumman, the Department of Labor, and dozens of other companies from the private and public sectors. Veterans, active-duty military and their family members are all invited to attend.
The American Legion has teamed with Military.com (a division of Monster.com), RecruitMilitary, LLC, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to organize the majority of events listed on the calendar.
RecruitMilitary LLC hosts career opportunity expos for veterans around the nation. It has relationships with employers ranging from Starbucks to Marathon Oil. Those who use RecruitMilitary receive access to a job database with more than 300,000 entries to search.
Military.com coordinates nationwide career expos in cities and military bases. Companies like USAA, Amazon and American Airlines are noted sponsors.
The Chamber of Commerce and the Legion formed an agreement last spring which called for Legion posts around the country to host the Chamber’s Hiring Our Heroes fairs. The relationship is off to a good start, having already conducted successful events in New York City and many more planned.
Veterans, service members and job-hunting spouses attending career events should bring copies of their résumés and be prepared to network. Some employers have even given on-site interviews.
